Unconditionally (Steve X Reader) (One-shot)

"(Name)?" Steve asked, slowly approaching you.

"Stay away!" you demanded. (favorite color) flames burned all around you. You were born with the power to create and control fire except you weren't very good at controlling the fire you could create. So you'd try to stay away from your natural fire because it would always lead to situations like this where you would accidentally hurt a loved one. "Don't come near me!"

"It's okay." he said, trying to console you as he reached out to you.

"No! Please! Stay away!" you continued to yell. "I never wanted you to see me like this."

"(Name) it's okay. I do-"

"It's not okay!" you shouted, the flames growing higher around you. "I'm begging you. Stay away."

"I won't." Steve said, still walking towards you.

Suddenly you blasted out of there and flew through the sky like you were the human torch. Steve stood there watching as you flew away and out of sight. That was the last he saw or heard from you in months. He did try to contact you but you just continued to avoid him no matter what. Steve was becoming desperate.

"It's Valentine's Day. Do something big that'll grab her attention." Tony said to Steve as he watched the super soldier sulk.

"Like what?" Steve asked. Shocking himself, he was about to take advice from Tony Stark.

"Well." Tony said, going through all the details in his head before telling Steve of his brilliant idea.

-Time skip a few hours-

"I can't believe I'm doing this." Steve said to himself, fidgeting with his headset.

"Ready?" Tony asked, excited. Steve glared at him. "What song did you choose?"

"You'll see." Steve said, taking a deep breath. Then it was time.

"Hello everybody. Tony Stark here and today I am joined by a close friend of mine, Steve Rogers. Say hi to the people Steve." Tony said, hoping Steve would oblige.

"Hi people." Steve said, un-enthusiastically.

"Forgive him everyone. The poor boy may have been dumped. He isn't sure. His girlfriend hasn't spoken to him in many a month." Tony explained to the people that were listening to them on Tony's radio station. "So today is Valentine's Day and this lonely man here with me is going to try to get his lady back with a big romantic gesture. What are you going to do Stevie?"

"I'm going to sing a song for her." Steve answered nervously.

"What are you going to sing?" Tony asked, still curious.

"Unconditionally by Katy Perry." Steve answered, clearing his throat as he got ready to sing.

"Okay. Take it away." Tony said, starting the music. Steve cleared his throat once more before singing.

Oh no, did I get too close?
Oh, did I almost see what's really on the inside?
All your insecurities
All the dirty laundry
Never made me blink one time

Unconditional, unconditionally
I will love you unconditionally
There is no fear now
Let go and just be free
I will love you unconditionally

Steve believed the song fit his feelings perfectly.

Come just as you are to me
Don't need apologies
Know that you are worthy
I'll take your bad days with your good
Walk through the storm I would
I do it all because I love you, I love you

Unconditional, unconditionally
I will love you unconditionally
There is no fear now
Let go and just be free
I will love you unconditionally

He wasn't even sure that you were listening right now but he poured his heart out into the song nonetheless.

So open up your heart and just let it begin
Open up your heart and just let it begin
Open up your heart and just let it begin
Open up your heart

Acceptance is the key to be
To be truly free
Will you do the same for me?

Meanwhile you were sitting in your car, tears streaming down your face as you listened to Steve sing.

Unconditional, unconditionally
I will love you unconditionally
And there is no fear now
Let go and just be free
'Cause I will love you unconditionally (oh yeah)
I will love you (unconditionally)
I will love you
I will love you unconditionally

"Thank you. Thank you for that." Tony said, wiping a single tear from his eye.

"Thanks Stark." Steve said, putting down the headset and getting ready to leave.

Back in your car you couldn't stop crying. You needed to see him. You needed to see him now. You started the car and drove towards Tony's radio station. Parking in front of the building, horribly. You ran into the building, up the stairs and busted through the doors. You looked around. He wasn't there.

"Where is he?!" you shouted at Tony, pounding on the glass to get his attention.

"He left." Tony answered, still on air.

"Where?!" you asked, frantically.

"Sorry I don't-"

"Uggghhhh!" you yelled out in frustration before running back out of the building. You jumped up onto the roof of your car, spotting Steve a few blocks away as he stood waiting for the crosswalk. "Steve!" you shouted but he couldn't hear you. You jumped back down off of your car and started running. Pushing through the crowd, trying to get to him as fast as you could. "Steve!"

He turned around, surprised to see you running towards him. He stood there frozen as you jumped up and wrapped your arms around his neck. You cried into his shoulder.

"(Name)? What's wrong?" Steve asked, holding you close to him.

"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." you mumbled into his shoulder.
"Did you hear me sing?" Steve asked, hopeful.

"Yes." you answered, pulling away from the hug. "I love you. I love you so much."

"I love you too." Steve said, holding back happy tears. "Happy Valentine's Day." he added, pulling a (favorite flower) out of thin air.

"Happy Valentine's Day." you said, taking the flower from him and kissing the lips you had come to miss.
